UX design

I started working as a UX designer before it even had a name, which means I’ve got bucketloads of experience designing solutions for household names that deliver class-leading and award-winning experiences.

Case study

Immersive alcohol brand experiences

The brief

A string of well-established alcohol brands asked Whitespace to develop new online presences that would raise their brand awareness with new audiences and leverage the the power of the social web to amplify their marketing efforts.

Clients included:

  • Tennent’s Lager
  • Chang Beer
  • Caorunn Gin
  • Mekhong
  • anCnoc
  • Bunnahabhain
  • Tobermory
  • Deanston

MY ROLE

For all of these brands I undertook all requirements gathering, developed their information architectures and user flows, built all of the wireframes and also helped develop innovative social strategies for them. For example on Tennent’s Lager, where I created the concept of an online hub that would engage the Tennent’s audience and act as a central brand area from which to provide brand news and launch ongoing Tennent’s campaigns.

RESULTS

A digital strategy with deep social connections proved to be a huge success for all these brands, gaining many of them tens of thousands of facebook likes and a significant increase in all brand tracking metrics, including ‘Brand I’d recommend to friends’.

Sant-o-matic

The brief

My agency had found itself the proud owners of an old, unloved arcade grabber-machine, and someone had the bright idea to turn it into an online charity Christmas card.

With only a few days till Christmas and absolutely no idea if it was possible… our team had their work cut out.

MY ROLE

We knew we wanted to bring the authentic arcade grabber experience online, so working with a developer and a designer I planned the full interaction and game-design of the web and physical experience.

I designed a queuing and control UI system that would allow people to virtually “queue up” to have their go of controlling the claw via a live video stream, and potentially winning up to £500 for charity.

The results

Sant-o-matic received thousands of visitors, many of whom managed to grab prizes, and all of whom helped raise a total of £1,670, which was donated to Cash4Kids.
